Reserve at Alder & Oak Brooklyn
Walk-ins welcome — especially on weeknights. Friday and Saturday fill. Book ahead.
Large parties (8+): call so the kitchen can seat you together.
An Evening in the Courtyard
You walk in and the Jacksonville skyline is already in front of you. The grill announces itself first — the crack and hiss of something landing on hot charcoal. The Mibrasa is a few feet from where you sit; you can hear it.
The pita arrives torn. A shallow plate of Iliada lands before the menu does. The courtyard is covered — the Hub Brooklyn buildings frame the room on three sides — so the evening air is part of dinner but the weather is not. Heaters in winter. Fans in summer. A roof overhead, year-round.
The octopus arrives still crackling. By the second Coravin pour, nobody's checking their phone. When dessert is cleared, Zorbas is one floor above — partially covered, the St. Johns River and the Jacksonville skyline spread out below.

Inside the Brooklyn Hub
Ground-floor covered courtyard at The Hub Brooklyn
About 95% of the seating is in a covered courtyard framed by the three Hub Brooklyn buildings. You feel the evening air; a roof, heaters, and fans hold the room comfortable year-round. The Jacksonville skyline sits beyond — close enough to be the backdrop of your table, far enough to stay atmospheric.
Two hearths — Mibrasa coal-fired grill and Earthstone wood-fired oven
Both hearths run here. The Mibrasa burns hardwood charcoal at around 700°F. The Earthstone holds steady radiant heat for 24-hour cold-fermented pizza, whole fish, flatbreads, and desserts. Nothing in the kitchen touches seed oil — only Iliada extra virgin olive oil and beef tallow.
Zorbas Rooftop — one floor above, partially covered
Zorbas Rooftop is one floor above the dining room — partially covered, Jacksonville skyline and St. Johns River views. Walk-in only. Aegean cocktails, Coravin wine by the glass, meze from the fire below.

Where It Sits — and What's Around It
Wood-fired restaurant near Riverside, Avondale, San Marco, and Downtown Jacksonville
Alder & Oak Brooklyn sits inside The Hub Brooklyn at 400 Riverside Ave. Southern Grounds Coffee anchors the ground level of the first building. The A&O kitchen is in the middle building; the dining room and Zorbas Rooftop are in the third.
Five minutes from Riverside and Avondale. Eight minutes from San Marco. Five minutes from Downtown Jacksonville. The Riverside Arts Market and the Cummer Museum are within walking distance. An evening can start with coffee at Southern Grounds, move to dinner in the courtyard, and end with a nightcap above the skyline — without anyone getting in a car.
When the table wants the beach instead, the Jacksonville Beach location opens this summer, one block from the Atlantic.
The Sourcing Is in the Room With You
The Mibrasa is part of the room — a few feet from where you sit. The Galician octopus that arrives still crackling is the tell: that fire and that supplier earned each other. Every protein on the menu traces to a named producer the same way.
Private Events at Brooklyn
The covered courtyard at The Hub Brooklyn is a ground-floor room with the Jacksonville skyline as its backdrop, the Mibrasa coal fire a few feet from where your guests sit, and a roof overhead that holds the evening together regardless of the weather. A full courtyard buyout fills the room with the hum of a single evening that belongs to your group. A semi-private corner is available for smaller parties that still want the skyline. Zorbas Rooftop above runs reception-style events with the river behind it.
